In Memory of My friend Bernie
Miracles happen every day
"Miracles happen each and every day, all
we have to do is get out their way and more will surely
come our way." This is exactly what each and every
one of us must do when we are trying to help our animal
friends.
In a recent lecture I gave in Burbank
California, I stressed the importance of listening to our
animals when we are trying to help them stay healthy. If
you are not listening to your pet when you are trying to
care for their health, you will not be able to tell
if they are benefiting from your efforts.
So often we are so intent on doing, we
forget the golden rule, BEING! BEING with your pet is more
important than DOING to your pet. Here is an example I always
use when lecturing on this point.
Imagine you have a little rat and he
has kidney failure. He loves you dearly and trusts you very
much. You have been told to give him subcutaneous fluids
but no one mentioned that they should be heated to body
temperature. All you know is he is going to get the 50 ml
of LRS no matter what. Every time you approach him, he pulls
away and tries to squirm out of your hands. When you put
the fluids under his skin, he cries. You on the other hand
are so determined to DO the fluid therapy you forget about
what he is telling you. In other words, you are not listening
to what is BEING said by the Rat. What is the BEING
is the fact he hates what you are doing to him and it is
stressing him.
No matter what you are doing to
help your animal friends, always make sure you listen to
what they are telling you and make you decision on what
is the best for both of you.
Thousands of times over the past 30 years
I have been brought my buddies in their 11th hour of life.
All has been tried and their care givers want me to save
their friend. I always fight for them no matter what but
if they are telling me they only want some time to be with
their caregivers and not be over treated, I listen.
What this is all about is the BEING with
someone who is close to passing over the Rain Bow Bridge
and needs some quality time to prepare his caregiver for
his or her passing. This does not mean give up on his or
her care, but rather structuring a method of treatment that
is in tune with the BEING of your little friend. Simply
put you choose a course of action that does not leave you
with the memory of shoving herbs down the little guys throat
and having hiding from you all the time. I do not mean to
upset any one but I have seen so many animals who just want
you to do the minimum care so they can enjoy what ever amount
of time they have left to share with you.
My hero Will Rogers said it best
when it comes to how man learns his lessons;
"There are three kinds of men
The ones that learn by reading.
The few who learn by observation.
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence."
I want all of you to approach the
care of your animals through observation not by peeing on
the electric fence .
Mr. Rogers also said,
"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of
that comes from bad judgment."
We will all make bad-judgement
calls but as Mr. Rogers so aptly put it, good judgment will
come from these bad judgments.
Albert Einstein said it best when it comes to bad judgment;
"The definition of insanity is repeating the same process
over and over again hoping for a different result."
This is what you always want to ask yourself
when caring for any living being or making any decisions
in your life. Make sure the choice you are making is based
on what you feel in your heart.
"There are two choices in life, one with
heart and one without. Always choose with heart even though
it may not turn out the way you had hoped, it will always
be the right choice." Stephen Blake
Make this your mission statement in what
ever you do and your animal buddies will be so proud
of your choice every time no matter what.
My book The Pet Whisperer
As you all know I wrote a book The Pet
Whisperer which I self published. I am selling it to my
clients and on my website www.thepetwhisperer.com . It is
a slow process but the reviews have been very heart felt
and make me very happy to know my stories are touching people's
hearts. I so enjoyed writing it and it is so nice to find
that animal caregivers and non-animal caregivers enjoy the
read. All I ask is that if any of you know a store or person
would like to order in a wholesale capacity, please have
them contact me at DrBlakesbook@aol.com.
Thank you all for your support and for paying it forward.
The new website www.thepetwhisperer.com is
going over very well thanks to all of you who have paid
it forward to friends and family. We have had an average
of 2000 hits per month which means people are listening
and it is all because of you guys. Thank you so much for
sharing your time with me.

Now that you have survived all my quotes, promotions and
theories it is time to share some good juicy facts, I know
you are all just dying to learn about .

My 3rd grandson Christian with my wife Charene.
All of my grandchildren are unvaccinated and I am so proud
of their parents for following their hearts.
You all knew this was coming but I
cannot contain my concern for my little two
legged friends who will inherit the world we leave them.
Chemicals, diet and emotional stress have always been
a major stress on their development both physically and
mentally. A far more insidious etiology is that of vaccinations.
I have followed the toxic effects
of vaccination on animals for 30 years and have seen the
same problems my MD counterparts have seen with their human
patients. I want to share this article with you on the autism/vaccination
issue which you all should be aware of and very concerned
about for your children and your animals. Vaccines
and Neurological Damage. You can also find links
on vaccination education on my website www.thepetwhisperer.com
Please share this with any one who has a child or
is going to have a child so they can make an intelligent
decision on how they want to protect their precious treasure,
their children. Will Rogers said it best." Lettin'
the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it
back." Once you vaccinate, it is always hard to go
back once the damage is done.
When someone is trying to
make you feel like a poor parent or animal caregiver, stand
firm and ask them to show you the scientific safety studies
on the vaccines they are telling you are essential for the
health of your child or pet.
After eating an entire bull, a
mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it
up until a hunter came along and shot him... The moral When
you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut. This is much
of what I believe is being said about how safe vaccinations
are.
Your friend the Flea! Not!

As you can see we have
the California State's Poster child for pests. We are the
flea capital of the world and for that reason we have a
war on Fleas that will never kill all the fleas but will
surely kill all the other animals in the state.
I recently received
a plea from a reader about her poor cat. She had been perfectly
healthy, loving and friendly cat who loved to sleep with
her at night under the covers. Stage left, here comes the
flea who started infesting her body. Being a caring cat
lover she took her to the groomer for a flea bath and was
told Advantage(imidacloprid) would take care of the problem.
She returned home and by that night she was having convulsions.
The good news is she is still alive
but is now on Phenobarbital to control her seizuring disorder.
When she was evaluated medically, the Advantage was dispelled
as not a problem and that she had epilepsy, which would
require her to stay on Phenobarbital possibly for the rest
of her life.
She no longer has her old
friend as she remembered her but instead a drugged cat who
is very depressed and still having neurological problems.
What is the message? When something has on the label, WARE
GLOVES WHEN APPLYING! , a RED FLAG goes up and you say NO,
NOT ON MY FRIEND! I always felt they should have dipped
the people who came up with this chemical for a few years
to see how they did before they released it on the poor
animals who have no say in the matter either way.
Here is what appears in the literature about Advantage
and my comments;
• Imidacloprid is an insecticidal agent that
acts on the central nervous system of insects causing impairment
and subsequent death. THIS IS TRUE..
• Imidacloprid is a topical solution that collects
in the oils of the skin and in the hair follicles. It is
not absorbed into the body and does not circulate through
the blood stream. I FIND THIS INTERESTING WHEN I HAVE CLIENTS
TELL ME THAT WITH IN MINUTES AFTER APPLICATION THEY CAN
SMELL IT ON THEIR DOG'S BREATH.
• The effects of Imidacloprid lasts about 30
days and remain effective after bathing or swimming though
shampooing should be avoided within 48 hours of application.I
HAVE REPORTS OF WHERE CLIENTS HAVE GOTTEN 3 MONTHS PROTECTION
WITH 1/3 THE RECOMMENDED DOSAGE AND NOT REPEATING MONTHLY.WHAT
IS THE CUMULATIVE DOSE IN YOUR PETS AFTER MONTHS OF APPLICATION?
NO ONE REALLY KNOWS AND IF THEY ARE SENSITIVE OR YOU ARE
TO THE CHEMICAL IT COULD MEAN SEVERE HEALTH CONCERNS.
• Fleas are rapidly killed and between 98 and
100 percent of fleas die within 12 hours. Reinfesting fleas
are killed within 2 hours. THIS IS TRUE BUT DOES ANY ONE
CONSIDER THE FACT THAT CHILDREN HUG AND KISS THEIR PETS,
AND THEY DO NOT HAVE RUBBER GLOVES OVER THEIR ENTIRE BODY. I
WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE SAFETY STUDIES ON CHILDREN. HOW MANY
CHILDREN WERE IN THE STUDY. MORE IMPORTANTLY WERE THERE
EVER ANY STUDIES IN THE FIRST PLACE? ASK THE COMPANY OR
WHO EVER YOU BUY THIS FROM TO SHOW YOU THE STUDIES BEFORE
YOU USE ANY THING THAT HAS TOXICITY OF ANY KIND.
• Imidacloprid is a prescription drug and can
only be obtained from a veterinarian or by prescription
from a veterinarian. FALSE, YOU CAN ORDER THIS ANY WHERE
ON THE INTERNET AND THAT IS REALLY SCARY TO ME .
• For more information on the potential toxicity
of this chemical, go to http://ace.ace.orst.edu/info/extoxnet/pips/imidaclo.htm and
be informed. I have a client have a grand mal seizure
after being exposed to Front-line and a client who's lips
became paralyzed after accidentally getting some on her
lip. So much for it doesn't effect people ...

In closing I would like to
share a story about one my patients who never gave up no
matter what and had caregivers who stood by him through
thick and thin.
Dolly's Story
Her name is Dolly and she
is a beautiful German Shepherd who loves her family. She
had a history of chronic dermatitis, digestive and ear problems
which made her care a challenge. Her Mom was all for alternative
care but her Dad was not sure she should be taking her to
a voodoo doctor like Dr. Blake .
In the beginning she had
Demodectic Mange which responded well to homeopathy and
nutrition. She had problems with chronic ear infections,
which we managed to help with homeopathy, gemmotherapy and
nutrition. Every time I would see her consult with her on
the phone she was a happy friendly girl. No matter how bad
her conditions were, she would always kiss me and wag her
tail, showing her appreciation for the care we were giving
her no matter what.
Then came the day that she was
to be spayed and our little girl began a journey that would
challenge both her Mom and her Dad's belief in alternative
medicine and me. Her parents had decided to have her spayed
and had asked me what I would suggest they do to help her
through this traumatic period. I recommended Arnica 30C(for
trauma and brusing) twice daily, starting the day
of surgery, Frankincense (to prevent scaring and stimulate
healing) and colostrum (www.thepetwhisperer.com
section on aromatherapy and colostrum for more information
and ordering) for helping her with her healing process.
I had sent her to a very good veterinary
surgeon I knew near them and all had gone very well. It
wasn't until a week later that I got a panicked
Mom calling about her poor Dolly. Evidently she had a severe
allergic reaction to the sutures and her entire surgical
site was draining pus and showing a great deal of swelling.
Dolly was very uncomfortable and her surgeon doctor told
her put her on antibiotics, which had not helped and
that they would probably have to go back in to remove the
sutures. This of course required anesthesia and reoperating.
She was besides herself and terrified of having to put her
friend through yet another surgery. To make matters even
worse they were leaving town and had to leave her with friends
to care for her while they were gone.
The antibiotics were not helping
and she was miserable. They were considering canceling their
trip and staying home with her to get ready for another
surgery. I could feel that Dolly definitely did not want
to go through another surgery and that she was frightened
by what was happening to her.
After taking the case, I recommended
Silica 30C one pellet twice per day, increased her colostrum
and had them put the colostrum on the wound. A few days
went by and I knew they were very close to their deadline
for leaving on their trip, when I got another phone call.
This time I didn't hear as much stress
in her Mom's voice. She felt Dolly was doing much better
and that they were going to leave on their trip as long
as I was around to help in case something came up. I reassured
them I would be and to continue her treatment as is. In
the back ground I could here Dolly barking, which is very
unlike her when we are consulting on the phone, so I knew
she was just letting me know she was listening and thank
me for helping her stay away from the surgeon's scalpel
blade.
When they returned a week later, she
was completely healed and she has never had a problem since.
The really big part of the story is that Dolly's Dad is
now a believer and when Dolly needs some help, he tells
his wife to please call Dr Blake and leaves out the voodoo
doctor title.

I want to thank you all for listening
and paying it forward. One last quote and we will call it
a day.
Make today a great day.
