June 2002
Dear fellow Crusaders:
I cannot believe June has come and gone. I hope this letter
finds all of you happy and healthy. Our main topic for this
month is going to be the natural prevention of pests in
your home, yard and pets.
The first and most important thing to remember is that what
ever you put on your pet, home or yard gets on you and your
family. I am sharing this bit of rocket science wisdom with
all of you because that is what nearly killed me over 20
years ago.
I was dipping animals with pesticides, breathing it in the
hospital I was working in, touching the animals with the
chemicals on them and absorbing the toxins into my body.
Luckily for me I found a homeopathic doctor who saw what
I was doing and told me to give up veterinary medicine or
die. Not what I wanted to hear! I asked him if there was
anything else I could do and he said I could try warring
rubber gloves.
I took his advice and after trying to treat an animal with
rubber gloves, I knew this was not going to work. It was
either leave the work I loved or come up with a different
approach. My decision was to tell all my clients current
and future, that they could not use pesticides on their
animals or I could not be their veterinarian. To top this
off, I live in the flea capital of the world.
This was a very scary decision for me because I had just
started my own practice, had to children and a ton of debt.
The result of this decision changed my entire life. Not
only did my clients embrace this concept but my business
grew. As it turned out I was not alone on this concept and
the animal caregivers were looking for a veterinarian to
say NO TO CHEMICALS.
The only problem was, what was I going to do now without
all the chemicals I had been using to treat animals. The
answer was, learn a new approach. My dad had always told
me that if you want to learn how to do something new, get
a book and study. As it turned out that resulted in me becoming
an alternative veterinarian, which was the best thing that
has happened to me in my life second to my family.
Now that you know my history it is time to get to the material
you have all been dying to hear ;O)
Parasites are attracted to weak hosts. A strong host will
naturally repel parasites and a weak one will attract them.
I am sure you have all seen multiple animal families where
one I always use the ABC approach to everything I do with
animals. A for avoidance, B for building the immune and
digestive system and C for cleansing.
Avoidance is not exposing the animals to toxins, such as
cleaners, herbicides, pesticides, drugs, excessive vaccinations,
byproduct food, excessive noise, stress and contaminated
water. By doing this you will remove a huge stress on their
immune systems which are preventing them from being able
to protect themselves.
Building up the immune and digestive system is a key to
helping them keep toxins out of their bodies and repel disease
and parasites. Good food, clean water and colostrum are
my corner stones for doing this. You can read more about
this at The
Pet Whisperer™ and Sedona
Labs: Suppliers of 100% New Zealand Colostrum from where
you can see how I dose colostrum and to learn more about
it. As I have told all of you time and time again, this
product saved my life and that of many others and can make
a huge difference in the health of you and your pets. I
also suggest that my clients use essential oils, especially
Frankincense on their animals at least 1 to three times
per week. Young Living Essential Oils -Independent Distributorship
I mix one drop of oil in an ounce of water, shake and mist
over the animals or squirt in my hands and massage into
their coats. Both cats and dogs like the smell and respond
nicely to it. I also recommend R. C. blend which you can
read about at my website Young Living Essential Oils -Independent
Distributorship This is a blend of many species of Eucalyptus
oil that I have found repels both fleas and ticks. Just
mix one drop per ounce of water and spray on your animals
once per day or before they go out into the woods or areas
where ticks and fleas are a problem. You do not have to
soak them with the spray. Just spray them lightly and massage
into their coats.
I have included an attachment to this mailing of a reprint
I share with all my clients on treating the house, yard
and pets for you to stick on your refrigerator and to pay
forward.
The next part is about natural care for your yard is based
on information I have obtained from experience and from
listening to Jerry Baker, America's Master Gardner on the
radio. Jerry Baker, America's Master Gardener ® . This
is his website so you can learn much more about natural
gardening and by doing so not poison your environment, pets
and family.
My feeling about insects in my yard is that as long as they
do not come in the house and they do not bite me, I leave
them alone. They help your yard stay in balance. If they
are destroying your plants look at the following options
for getting rid of them without toxic substances. You can
take a 20 gallon hose-end sprayer, put one cup of Fels Naptha
Soap Solution (shave 1 inch of Fels Naptha Bar soap in an
old nylon stocking and place into a gallon of boiling hot
water along with 4 ounces of baby shampoo or liquid dish
soap), 1 cup antiseptic mouthwash (if nematodes are a problem,
use a mint mouthwash), 1 cup chewing tobacco juice and spray
the yard once per week as needed. This will help debug and
help disease-proof your yard. It is also a good idea to
use spiked shoes to walk on your lawn to aerate the soil
and help make it more resistant to disease.
I do not recommend any herbicides, just good old weeding
by hand. Mow your lawn at sun set and water in the early
morning to help keep the stress down on the grass so it
will not be as susceptible to disease. You can also put
a few drops of Rescue remedy in your hose sprayer and finish
with a Bach flower rinse to help with the shock of mowing.
I just received a few email requesting I share some insight
into what you should all do if your dog comes down with
a UTI (urinary track infection) or cystitis (which is inflammation
of the bladder which may be sterile or not), deskunking
and some testimonials on bovine colostrum results.
The first thing you could do would be to place them on ester
C at a dose of 500 mg per 25 pounds of body wt twice per
day and Cranactin, one capsule per 25 pounds twice per day.
These two nutrients will help stabilize the bladder and
make it more difficult for bacteria to grow. It also will
help the immune system. I always use Colostrum in these
cases at a dose of 1/3 tsp. per 25 pounds of body wt twice
per day The Pet Whisperer™ . I also suggest you fast them
for 24 hours and give water only. Many times this will occur
during a detoxing process your pet may be going through.
If it is a healing crisis, it will often times clear up
on its own without antibiotics by doing what I have told
you to do. I also recommend using Frankincense on the pads
of the hind legs twice per day. This will stimulate the
acupuncture points for the liver, gallbladder, spleen, kidney
and bladder. You should have a urinalysis done if your pet
is in distress or feeling ill just to make sure there isn't
a serious bacterial infection or some other organ system
problem going on. My general handling of healing crisis,
is to stop all supplements, fast for a day except for water
and allow the body time to heal. Once they are back on track,
I resume their supplementation. Always contact your veterinarian
if you are not comfortable with what you are seeing. As
I always tell all of you, BE THE DOG OR THE CAT and do what
you would do if you were showing the same symptoms.
Since it is skunk season here is a formula that really works
without tomato juice and a lot of elbow grease. Skunk Magic
Formula: one quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking
soda, 1 tsp liquid soap, mix in a bucket and thoroughly
wet with solution work well into coat keep away from mouth
and eyes. Follow the bath with a thorough rinse. Repeat
as needed.
I just spoke with a human :O) who had suffered from rheumatoid
arthritis and had been on 90 different medications , with
no results. She read about New Zealand bovine colostrum
in 1998 and decided to give it a try. She is happy to report
she has her life back and is doing excellent. A client who
has a cool dog named Buster I am helping her with in the
Midwest, just told me her other dog who has suffered from
seasonal allergies is doing great. Since I had not consulted
with her on the care of her second dog, I asked her what
she had done for her. Her response was that she had put
her on the Symbiotic colostrum and ever since she has had
no symptoms of the swollen feet, itching and scratching
she has had the past three years. These are but a few of
the many cases I see day in and day out that have benefited
in some way from taking the colostrum. The extra bonus is
that it often times helps even the two legged variety ;O)

Being kind to your home and yard will create a healthier
environment for all of you. Have a great day and please
pay it forward.
