Q. What happened to New Zealand colostrum?
A. Nothing at all. However, over the last 10 years, there has been a growing consensus that colostrum should be ‘country specific’ in order to meet our specific needs. Cows that graze on local soils that contain local bacteria and pathogens that their colostrum addresses. Also I am enthused to support the American small dairy farmers.
Q. Are all American colostrum equal then?
A. All colostrum has some benefits but to get the greatest benefits one should look for a ‘check list’ regarding the farms and company.
First the cows should be in an environment that is pesticide free, hormone free and steroid free. The farms should meet USDA standards and be inspected on a regular basis (all Imutek affiliated dairy’s are). The colostrum should come from a wide range of cows in dairy producing states. Currently Imutek gathers it’s colostrum from over 100,000 cows through out the mid west states known for their dairy’s. Imutek installs special refrigeration, where needed, for the colostrum and hires and trains personnel specificly for colostrum collection. This colostrum is then rushed in refrigerated trucks to our Colorado facility where we process in small batches to assure quality and potency.
Q. How can you have such long best buy dates? Do you use preservatives?
A. Absolutely not. We sell only 100% colostrum. Again the answer is freshness. Our colostrum is not gathered all at once, processed and sits in a warehouse till sold which could be years. We are a more ’boutique” operation that focuses on a steady but very controlled product. This why we state a minimum of 30% IgG with no manipulation of the cows or the colostrum. This is plain 100% first five hour milking colostrum not a semi colostrum milk product with 12-15% IgG. You will both see and feel the difference!
Q. Who inspects your facility?
A. We are inspected on a regular basis by the USDA as producers of a food product. These inspections are detailed and cut no corners. We would have it no other way. USDA allows us to sell and ship world wide and those who purchase from us have the assurance of safety and purity.
Q. Do you do any other testing for your colostrum or is USDA it?
A. Hardly. Besides independent testing we run no less that 70 tests in-house though all steps of the production process. Our testing looks for any form of contamination or degradation of the product. I like to say we test from “udder to your shelf.”
Q. What should I expect to see when I open a jar of your colostrum?
A. Assuming you have the powder or break open a few capsules you will see a light yellow-gold powder that has a fresh sweet smell. It will clump up in water as natural colostrum does. Some companies alter their colostrum to easily dissolve in water. This is colostrum that has had one extra process done to it in order meet our ‘instant’ lifestyles. This is not natural and simple takes away from the way nature created colostrum to be and messes with it’s delivery systems.
Q. What’s the best way to try your colostrum for my self?
A. Try it. Order some and test it your self and see the difference. Do your own tests and see. As I like to say “the proof is in the udder..”
